Ready, Steady, Cook:
Learning Intention:To work in pairs and design a main meal and a dessert using the four main ingredients selected by the teacher in one hour.
What happens? This is the competition all students look forward to at the start of every semester. The most common question I get asked is, "Are we doing Ready, Steady, Cook at the end of the semester?" So here is what we do:
Students are given four ingredients that in pairs they must make a main meal and a dessert with. One of the ingredients is always a meat, another a vegetable, a fruit and a carbohydrate such as rice or pasta. They may use a recipe that we have already made or may adapt on one, or start from scratch with another recipe. They may use any pantry ingredient that we have, but must make sure that it is in stock before starting their cooking. They must make this in one hour! It will then be judged by ant staff member we can find based on the taste, texture, smell and appearance of their food. The pair that wins will be the pair that most staff members have voted on. |
Success Criteria:I can work well as a partnership to prepare both courses.
I can use the four ingredients and any other pantry items available to prepare my two dishes. I can follow the recipes I have and alter ingredients to make my own dish. |
