Food safety training
Go to the Victorian Government Health Department website at http://dofoodsafely.health.vic.gov.au/ welcome.php
At this link is an online food safety training program that is available to better inform food handlers and all Victorians about how to handle food safely. This is a free resource and has been developed by the Department of Health’s Food Safety and Regulation Unit. The online course takes about one hour to complete. If students complete the whole course, they will be able to:
• handle food correctly at all stages of preparation • explain the do’s and don’ts for accepting food deliveries, storing, displaying and transporting food • explain the do’s and don’ts for cleaning the food preparation surfaces and equipment. However, you could choose to access separate sections of the program. These include: • Why food safety? • Personal hygiene • Food handling • Cleaning and sanitising • Food delivery, storage and display • Food contamination • Assessment Students can access any topic they want from the menu in whatever order they choose and there is no limit to how many they choose to complete. However, in order to successfully complete the course students need to pass the quiz. If they receive a score of 90 per cent or higher in the quiz they will receive a certificate of completion which can then be printed off and used to show their knowledge of food safety. The website also has a range of resources and an extensive glossary.
